ATTENTION PRIMARY 7 PARENTS-POST-PRIMARY APPLICATIONS

31st Jan 2023

Dear parent/guardian,

Please see information in relation to the admissions process for post-primary places in September 2023.
The application process to apply for a post-primary place opens tomorrow the 1st February 2023 at 12 noon via the EA’s website. The portal closes on the 23rd of February 2023 at 4.00pm
It is important that your application is submitted by the closing date but applications are not considered on a first-come-first served basis.
Before you start your application, please look on the EA website to find post-primary schools in your area.
Read the admissions criteria and check if your child would be eligible for transport.
Remember, schools must apply their admissions criteria to select pupils if they receive more applicants than they have places available.
Think about how well your child meets the criteria and make sure to clearly state all relevant information in your application, such as if your child attends a feeder primary school or has a sibling attending the post-primary school. Schools can only consider the information you provide.
Of the pupils who were not offered a place in 2022, there was 56% whose parents had listed only one to three schools.
To ensure the best chance of getting your child into a school of your choice, it is important that you list sufficient schools. The EA recommends that at least four schools are listed in your order of preference, including at least one non-Grammar school.
When making your online application, you will be able to upload any documents that are required in the admissions criteria of your preferred schools, such as proof of address, and please ensure you upload a copy of your child’s birth certificate as this is required for all schools.

For more information and to begin an application, visit Post Primary Admissions Guide | Education Authority Northern Ireland (eani.org.uk)

The following children are exempt from the Post Primary admissions process:

  • Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs.

DO NOT complete an application if your child has a formal Statement of Special Educational Needs. There is a separate admissions procedure where the Post Primary School placement is discussed with you as part of the review of your child’s statement. Therefore, application should not be made via EA Connect. For information on the progress of SEN assessments or school placements please contact the EA’s SEN Service directly.

Your child’s placement will be arranged through the EA’s Special Educational Needs Service.

I hope this information is useful. Please get in touch if you need support or assistance with the application process.

Kindest Regards

Mrs Bacheta
